Catcott Playground AGM held at Catcott School Hall - Spt 12th 2006
Chairman's Report
As a committee we are aware that there has been a lapse of our AGM in recent years. We have corrected this and will have our AGM each September from now on.
On that note - my report only takes into account events from September 2005 and with that we start with our village collections which took place in September 2005 & were very successful.
The committee has decided to collect from the villages of Catcott and Edington every two years as a way of making contact with all the residents who may use the facilities - either for children, grandchildren or visitors and to heighten awareness of the park - what it provides and also the support it needs from the community.
In the autumn/winter season of 2005 we held our now established annual run of table top sales which have become a welcomed and much anticipated event in the local calendar. They are very successful for us in bringing together the community and also for fund raising.
We purchased counter collection boxes during this year and have sited them at Gwillams and the King William and also built our own field collection box which in its first year will have paid for itself. This was thought to be both a good fund raising scheme but also a strong visual prompt to all users at the park along with the sign, that was erected behind the collection box. No-one can now be mistaken in thinking that the park is council owned and we think it has urged people to appreciate the facilities more.
We started a maintenance programme during 2005 and were successful in getting sponsorship from Wollens Builders Merchants and Wells Reclamation as well as our continued sponsorship from Wyke Farm Cheeses.
This meant that we could re-roof the shelter & repair the timber work and also re-floor the Wendy house. Sedgmoor District Council through County Councillor David Huxtable granted us money for this and other work on the proviso that we fitted a bench in the shelter which we did.
The maintenance is ongoing and we are currently looking at a new set of swings as well as resurfacing the safety surface with new woodchippings in accordance with the RoSPA yearly safety report which was a much better report this year overall.
Our purchases for the year were for a picnic table for all to use and some climbing roses for the front fence.
However - this has been our least successful venture to date as the vandals have wrecked the table and the rabbits have eaten the roses. The rabbits however, are not banned from the park as yet - the vandals are!
